Home Depot House, 2013
mixed media sculpture
10 x 8.5 x 12.5 feet
A tiny house made entirely from materials available within a single Home Depot store. This collaboratively designed and constructed one-room cabin was created together with Home Depot employees using materials sold within that store. In 2013, I had a part-time job working at a local Home Depot store in Providence, RI. During this time, I worked with other store employees and management to build a house that would be exhibited within the store. The cabin was then transported and reinstalled at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, MA where it functioned as workspace and art studio for local artists during the 2013 deCordova Biennial Exhibition.
Images to the left and below show photos of the cabin, process images of its construction outdoors, a copy of Virginia and Lee McAlester's 1984 book: A Field Guide to American Houses, pages from the McAlester's book that were used to help us with the building's construction, the finished cabin installed inside the Home Depot store, an apron with signatures, process images of the cabin being transported and installed at the deCordova Museum, interior and exterior views of the cabin, and resident artists making work in and around the cabin.
